Maybe, but that is a bit complex in my opinion, but I'll try to nonetheless.

My amazing Ludum Dare 35 project. Basically it is one of my endless attempts to bring a good mechanic to one of my games, one that does not bother the player (and one that is relatively simple). Also going to make music for this. So far it looks like this: note: I haven't shown the mechanic of this game yet because I still need to change some things.

I'm not a big fan of the graphics because you are mixing some slightly different styles together(graphics scaled to 2X with non-scaled)... however... the graphics do have quite good contrast and it is a very interesting aesthetic. I would say good work there. Contrast is key.

I didn't scale the graphics, they are made with Paint.NET and I used a bigger brush size. Also thanks fior the advice!

I think a mixture can work well, like what nups done here. like, if the gameplay objects/characters are one style, then say the background is more pixelated, i think that works. this separates the bg with moving/important objects ontop.

I was wondering if anyone would like to give some comments and critisism of my image. this is the first area in my game. thanks. hm that's good, Jake. I particularly enjoy the names of the locations (mouth of sand, docklands), and there is an interesting contrast between the pixels and the weird character, overall it looks like my cup of coffee tea drink.

It's slightly askew slightly unbalanced slightly weird perspective, but nothing really goes into the surreal territory because it's not really dramaticized (which could be a good or bad thing). There is power in subtlety, but that also makes it less dynamic/ memorable for a first location in the game. So it's kinda tough to judge.
I'd recommend playing more with offbalance or try to lead the player's eye from one point to another with the art. Cause right now with all of the things on screen, my way of looking at the level is kind of erratic because of the seemingly random placement of everything in the foreground.
The character designs are absolutely bizarre and I love it. It's kinda like a Rorschach test in how you think you see things in the nonsense- like- that looks like a green camel with an upsidedown hump to me. Allowing the players to make up these characters within your sprites is really empowering and fun.

Boot bot, gun with dick and teeth, twisty bubble emitter, like it's just fun making names and personalities for these little guys. And when I say random building/ character placement, I kinda mean its just weird on the eyes how they are just filling up everywhere but the bottom right quadrant. You could play around/ emphasize with that, make it more aesthetically pleasing by making having more unity, or leave it as is, it's your call, but it's maybe something to think about.
