Somehow i think the placement of things looks okay. i feel like it would be a mess if I placed an object in the bottom right. glad you like the character designs, this makes me think, and I reckon I'm interested in making it sometimes unclear if an object is a character or not. Thanks for the feedback! well, here is another image. sorry this one is big

I was more thinking maybe take out the tower and orbs on the top right side and move the bubble emulator to the right a tad. Kinda make the scene off balanced, without being cluttered. But yeah, I haven't made a game since November so, I'm not one to talk lol
And yeah, the playful designs of characters/ scenery and the two almost blending together having uncertainty, is it a character or is it an inanimate object, is just really enjoyable and creative. Interested to see how sound and gameplay blend with that as well.

It looks interesting, Jake... though it's not one of my favorite graphical styles. In general I go for a more simplified approach.
I think perhaps what bothers is me is that it's so busy, so many characters and things going on. But that may be intentional! Might i ask what the game is about?

it is one of the more messy locations in the game. it's a sequence where you fire cake at enemies. The game is an adventure game, there is some kind of astronomical event making characters go crazy and you're on your way to the planet or whatever it is. but there isn't any depth to this in the game, its just a background idea for me to follow.
I'm kind of inspired by KidPix + kid's claymation tv cartoon vibes. I might post a version of it here if anyone is interested in testing it one day

this is an empty island in Gebub's Adventure that's supposed to be just a quiet place for meditation or something... trying to make the sky a bit more scenic, not satisfied with it. Thinking should make it a bit more northern lights-esque somehow.

That is very pleasant, orange. This isn't for anything in particular, but I've been collecting found footage from students who leave their stuff on public computers/ audio and video recorders. Then I mess with it

random thoughts about videos and games:
I've been thinking about a game today I made called 'the beach' which is 3D aimless walk around game after i presented it yesterday as a video at uni. it's a really simple game that you only need to play for a few minutes, that's what i like about it. You dont need to get too involved in it it 'get it', it just offers what it has to straight away. this is something I like about videos and very short games. I used to think about why videos of games (on youtube) can appeal to me more than/equally as much as playing some complicated games myself. you pay attention to things differently watching the game as it's played by someone else; you don't need to worry about gameplay, where to go/what to do. instead your taken through it and you probably pay more attention to the graphics and weird common graphic anomalies that are always present in games (bad animations, slidy movement, glitchy shadows and whatnot).
I think something i like about videos of games is that they potentially can appeal to non-gamers because you are passive as a viewer and you can show off the games gfx and sounds without trying to get people interested in learning how to play it and understanding it in order to progress.
I like Bernband by tom because its like a small arcade game where you can see mostly everything within a few minutes, you dont get addicted to it, you can watch a video of it without needing to play it because it doesnt have much gameplay........ and you can literally just stand still in the game and be satisfied by the atmosphere
Grand Theft Auto appeals to me a lot because of how you can watch the day go by without needing to interact with the world, you can just walk down the street and watch city things happen. there were some videos on youtube of 'walking in GTA5' which are cool because they hightlight the little details of the simulated world
I think i'm interested in making games 'on rails' where you're literally restricted from anything apart from looking around. i know this is like the opposite of what people nowadays expect from games, but somehow a better illusion can be created as well if you can't do much in the world, so it can be more effective.....
for some reason I'm always less satisfied with my games the more effort and complexities I add to them, basically the more gameplay focused they become the less interested i am in them. Like 'space pirate dernshous' is a good effort of mine I think, but i'm not very satisfied with it because it's close-ish to being a normal Escape Velocity spend-hours-in-this-game type game

I dunno man the virtual reality trend is sparking interest in these on-rails experiences. There's definitely people out there who think like you in regards to exploring thru a restricted view. Some people enjoy that.
Strategy games, RPGs, fighting games, chess, wicked difficult platformers, those are the kinds of games that I can play for hours at a time. There's a feeling of accomplishment I get from outsmarting the opponent or the game mechanics themselves. Maybe I'm an egomaniac or something? From a player's point of view I liked space dog, because of its hidden gems among the nothingness and intricate upgrade system. Having complex gameplay and a unique atmosphere worked in that one. I'm not even sure if making a game complex all of a sudden means it is mainstream, but I can see the argument for that. and idk if calling something "mainstream" is considered an insult or what and idk if mainstream games have less of an impact emotionally or not (but I doubt it)

So I am making a 3D horror game with pixel graphics. This one is being made with Unity and it's called Phoyolicule. It is basically an atmosphere based horror game. It will probably depend a lot on sound as well in order to fully build an atmosphere.
