the top two aren't loading but jellyfish is cool
crits; um, the bubbles look a little cartoony, and I would expect the orange glow from the jellofishes to be the brightest of their specular highlights

thanks, jake! blue is the complementary color of orange, so there's defintely some of that going on with the jellyfish hey fawful, i dont know why the top 2 won't load, maybe try them as a links here: s23.postimg.org/3m8g4n6pl/bopaintg.pngs30.postimg.org/n1jq4fgjz/peacockcropped.pngthanks for the crits, the bubbles may indeed be a little bit too cartoony, in the future i can try to be a bit more true-to-life... im not sure about the orange glow thing... jellyfish are kinda weird in regards to lighting and ive painted a bit more i think im getting a little better this snail painting was a bit stiff, but I'm slowly getting looser and more free direct link to snail if it doesn't load: i.imgur.com/31sJwfF.jpgthis tiger painting was done a little bit too thoughtlessly, i wasn't paying enough attention to the proper facial proportions in my reference still looks kindof good though, the flames were my own idea ill probably be painting over this one later direct link if it doesn't load: i.imgur.com/aCALkol.jpgthis one is my latest, im pretty pleased with it(sorry for the lighting glare on the black background in the bottom right, that was due to bad lighting for the camera) direct link if it doesn't load: i.imgur.com/Oei9zJK.jpgI don't enjoy painting if i have to be hyper realistic, so I've been having fun with this loose semi-realistic style. i get most of my reference images from morguefile, a website for using images that are free from copyright, so I won't get in trouble for using them(except for the tiger painting, I used an image that is probably copyrighted, which is partly why i will be painting over that one) feel free to critique!

Wow, dude, you've definitely been improving. I remember some of your old game art (an although pixel art=/= painting), but this is a real step up. Keep practicing! Love that Snail, Jellyfish, and Owl.
As far as critique goes: the framing and composition isn't all that complex. Try experimenting with point of view. That's something I had a lot of trouble with, in the past, and I feel that taking a photography course/ experimenting with a camera helps to better understand what kinds of interesting things you can do. Point of view can have effects in creating mood, emphasis, and create a more coherent piece. So, I'd suggest going out into the world and using a camera/ view finder/ your eyes, and playing around with that in your paintings.

yeah I did a photography class as well and it was great learning about different composition and angles, I feel like it helped a lot with painting although I havent painted for ages now. you seemed to have captured the tiger's expression well in that painting especially in the eyes. but with the owl the eyes look pretty strange, and the distance between them looks too big or something.

i don't know if you do this already, but a good technique is to start out super rough by defining the main areas of colour first and gradually building up the detail in layers.

yes, that is a good technique I have been painting in more layers recently.
I should have a new painting to show you guys in a few days but it's taking a while because I'm painting in layers from dark to light, and sometimes I have to add in dark more than once, so it's taking a while.
nice thing about acrylic you can just keep painting over you previous layers until you're satisfied with the painting

with acrylic the important thing is just to learn the basics, and then use the paint yourself and learn how it works I watched some videos by a guy named Sam Durkin on youtube he's a good teacher and it helped a lot.
