i like the clouds, makes me think of jupiter. itd be cool to see sharper areas like in your other ones with the blocks of paint. at the moment they have the same kind of blurry brush in most areas. and this is just me but im not that into the dramatic compositions, looks slightly dull for my taste. I enjoy elements of your blocky experiments like the cropped abstracted robot on other page because its harder to work out what i'm looking at and that intrigues me + if anything I want to know more about what the thing is. I don't really get that with these two because of how the 'mystery' is kind of in the middle of image maybe. it makes me think a bit of a cover of a book for 'a twinkle in time' or whatever I dunno. is there a theme for the competition?

@corn spoon I had a go at adding some sharper edges on the tornado one, I tried putting some lighter highlights in the clouds with sharp edges but it didn't come out too great. There's some sharper looking stuff on the left side line of trees now though. When you refer to the mystery of pieces do you mean that some of the important stuff is blurry or lacking and it doesn't help with the composition and takes you out of it? It is supposed to be jupitery, I started off just throwing bright colours around and it turned into a tornado, and the colours reminded me of jupiter so I thought I'd push it further. I messed around with the colours afterwards. And no, there's literally no theme. oh, i also reduced the vibrance of the sunbeam on the other one, seemed a bit excessive + more detail/general fiddling @orange08 TY:)))) Which of the two do you like most? I'm gravitating towards the second one because I find the scenario more interesting but the other might be more appealing visually, idk.

i feel like the foreground looks like an undersketch for more layering, you know what I mean? like eg this one you did a while ago has the quality i like of your other drawings with its sharpness and mixture of brushes. and you have the nice reflecting water or rubber on the road looks sweet!!!!!! I just get a lot more depth here etc. at the moment these ones are bit fluffy and samey as in all on the same layer looking

also in the jupiter one, the bottom right corner, that cloud bulge has a good look about it with the shading, it jumps out a bit but i dont get that feeling anywhere else really.

So it is to do with the edge sharpness and stuff. I see what you mean about it affecting the depth perception. I've sharpened up the foreground in the cave image and some stuff, I think it's an improvement - I think I've been looking at them too long. I sharpened the edge on the other side of the tornado to hopefully even it out. I also though it'd be cool to add a Galileo probe robot looking at a newspaper/map

they are both very good i honestly could not say I like one over the other... each of them has it's own merits...
do you have to pick one of these for some competition or something? maybe you could tell us the target audience?

yeah, it's for a competition. There's literally no theme, but I think the entries are judged by a panel of arty types. Has to be submitted by the 26th so I'm going to have to do something about it soon. I'm kind of leaning towards the tornado one from what I've heard from others and because when I first threw it together I really liked it, though I feel like there's a missing element. On the other hand I feel that the cave one is somehow more appropriate because it isn't kraezy with the colours is generally more realistic. idk lel :EDIT: did more stuff to jupnado - with lines or without?? with: imgur.com/ONGuuGgwithout: imgur.com/Bl5jvRL
