Maximus Cerebrum is latin for important brain. I have a (not very often updated) devlog on TIGsource for this too, but I'll probably feel more free to post stuff on here. I started this project a little over 2 years ago in January 2012... I haven't been working on it very consistently but nonetheless it has come a long ways. It's a metroidvania with black and white graphics and also the occasional colorful light on panels and such. It's about a robot who has been generated in this facility and the robot has been given too many brains. The big artificial intelligence of the facility is angry about this and wants to stop the robot from exploring(and in-game you'll find out why this is so). screenshots: i.imgur.com/6i5lKv0.pngi.imgur.com/Awfctyt.pngi.imgur.com/8RAOJLZ.pngthere are over 160 rooms in the game so far, so I could hypothetically make a lot more of these screenshots... not all the rooms are especially interesting though. here's the in-game minimap so far: I haven't explored every single room in this playthrough so there are some rooms that are not in the minimap. I'll try to make posts when I've made progress... I really want to get this game finished. thankyou

Looks pretty cool. How does it play?

it plays like your average platformer, except that the jumping is a little bit jetpacky... not the traditional mario-jump. I think I might have to make the minimap tiles on the pause menu smaller because there isn't going to be enough room horizontally for the entire game's minimap... Edit: trying a couple different sizes, unfortunately when it's smaller I can't put an S on the save point rooms... however that shouldn't be too hard for the player to figure out what the dots mean. original:

i would put something in the menu to indicate save points. something like:
. - save point
it could be a little cryptic otherwise

I love the colors! erm... I love the lack of colors! Does the game has a count down timer?

thanks for the suggestion, fawful! I'll do that and @james im glad you like the my color choices, but yeah that's not a count-down timer... it's just a timer that keeps track of how long you've been playing. However, the timer is wrong on those screenshots up there... the playthrough has not lasted 9 hours and 9 minutes... the default values for the timer are 9 hours, 9 minutes, and 9 seconds so since I just recently made the time-keeping encrypted it reset itself to those values. I'm really interested in seeing how fast I can beat the game once it's finished. There's some game-changing effects so certain things you do can take up more time and also decrease time so speedruns should be super interesting... a new little puzzle for the main path:

Got a lot done recently... a broken checkpoint: so handy another sortof puzzling room and here i just unlocked a huge barrier I have 14 more rooms to make before one pathway to the ending is ready. After that there are some other rooms I need to make.

game is about 99% complete you can submit speedrun records to gamejolt... ive added some encryption security codes, for that... the ending sequence works good and there are some credits... credits might need something more to them, though... im not sure also not sure about that meditation room in the post above, currently pressing the panel in the middle just makes everything go black and blue circles just start coming from the center of the screen... it's kindof dumb... oh well the main thing I need to get finish up in the game is implementing the next couple of music tracks from the composer(he still needs to make them though). heres a screenshot of a puzzle: and here:

today I added a stats menu, and also one little graphical detail to the game the stats took a while to make work properly These current stats aren't actually accurate(as you can probably tell) but that's just because the data only just now started being recorded.

that was actually a lie, there are only 227 rooms I compiled the 3 paths of the minimaps and got this: A complete map of all the rooms in the game. also, I've added some final details to the quiet zone:

all the testers have so far been saying they couldn't manage to find any bugs or get themselves stuck anywhere and I just now realized, I think this is the only place you can get stuck, but the only reason you would get stuck here is if that is what you're trying to do: So far the average playtime for the testers is 35-40 minutes. Also the composer is almost done finishing the tracks! I can't wait to release this!
