Working on an adventure game. I'm concentrating on trying to make interesting atmospheres for the different locations, so hopefully that's what will make the game engaging possibly... I'd really like to get any feedback to see if it's any fun at all, and if you're able to actually download and run it Thanks! Does this link work: www.dropbox.com/s/60b8n5dq8dmrypu/AUG4try.zip?dl=0Arrows to move, 'E' and Enter to interact some worries I have: - doesn't really feel like you're in the world - it's a chore to go through - areas feel disconnected

It was very strange, and very confusing. Non-persistent rooms and items that do nothing is what puzzled me. Unfortunately I didn't make it very far, because I didn't know what to do in the room on the far left with the green-> purple switch. Did it open the locked door or the blue laser blockade? Couple glitches. Got caught in a wall once- I'll post an image where I got stuck. And also you can walk through the tree on the room above the beach (one right before the switch room I mentioned earlier).
It is fun, and the different art styles/ music pieces in each room made the game compelling to advance (but again I have no idea what to do with that switch, but I want to find out what the other rooms are like, so I can play through it later). I also like the hitbox on the main character, and how he can navigate around curveing walls. The dance club battle lagged like hell but it was really fun to try to devise strategies around the dudes and actually make it through. There's also something great about the pixelated grass eaters. I said this the other day with your screenshots but the characters and objects that might be characters or not are really imaginative and kinda make the player curious if they do anything or not. Good stuff.

Thanks a lot for your feedback crozier! yeah, not sure if the item collecting is necessary, might be better without them........
oh by the way, I don't know if it was at all clear but you can walk inside the bar in the first room to buy a gun to kill the enemies (i should put an arrow to the bar, OR, remove the whole 'purchase gun' thing and just make it where you start with gun..... so the money in the area below is for the shop
i dont know what you mean, sorry, thanks anyway though!

Lol just those creatures to the left of the starting room, the blocky pixelated fellows who bend their necks to the ground out of sync with each other. They're cool. There's just a lot of weird little people things in this game. Like all the dudes in the background in the rock bar green goop monster fight room.
Oh and I forgot to mention where I got stuck, it was in the blue laser room (the one you access by going down the ladder, early on in the game). I got stuck in the bottom right corner of the room, and couldn't get out. Other than that, no game breaking glitches.

Thanks! I'm hoping that if I add more characters and weird animated things, it will make the game more engaging to go through. And I'll definitely try and make it more clear as to what to do. So basically: make it much more straightforward, as to where to go first (basically make it really linear and block off things until you get the obvious thing you are meant to get maybe?), with more weird animated things to see, and then hopefully I'll call it finished at that point.

I dunno, it's a similar situation to point and click adventures, where they have the appearance of being non-linear or open, but really the puzzles must be solved in a set order. I'm not a huge fan of that genre (although I'm gonna give Dropsy a try, it looks pretty cool), but I know when I was a kid I had a lot of trouble with point & clicks because of how arbitrary/ precise the solutions to puzzles were. If you can be creative with the puzzles to play off of the viewer's sense of wonder playing the game, or have more things that you can interact with (so they KNOW they are doing something to the environment, opposed to just assuming something is happening), the game might be a little more approachable/ easier to play. I do like the non-persistent rooms and useless items, because it is very weird and something not often found in adventures games, and your game thrives when it is most unique.
And, yeah, np man. I know how it can be

In some ways I'd prefer to make it ultra linear and just show things in a certain order for the beginning, and then later on make it a little less linear. and I feel like my games benefit from being on rails so I can show it like a ghost train ride most of the time. it's really hard to make multiple interesting paths for a more open experience and im just way lazy
I used to always want to play games that were open world where you can make choices... because that's what videogames should be??!?! i don't mind anymore, kind of prefer focused linear things, mainly because multiple choice games take a lot more time to play I think and I don't want to put that much time into playing games
and obviously the very beginning of the game is confusing because I haven't told the player exactly what to do, which im going to do

hey Jake I finally got around to playing this it was pretty cool I got stuck on the spaceship looking thing to the right side(after you fall down), that has something like "4 K F" on it, I even tried pressing those keys but it seems I am stuck in that location.
What I played of the game was pretty nice though, the sound adds a lot and it was enjoyable.
