Famitracker is a tracker software I use to create chiptune sounds. It's what I use to create the melodies. I use SFXR for some chiptune percussive sounds. It's pretty good for that. There's plenty of drum samples around. Make your own up by placing them accordingly or get some actual loops. Reaper is a sequencer/sampler software I use to create my tracks. It's free-ish to use (just got to wait a bit before you can actually use it, ~10 secs). It comes with a lot of cool audio manipulation filters and lets you cut and place stuff really well. That's what my average music project looks like. Look for some free synths for you to use, I think Reaper has a piano roll editor that's used to create melodies, etc.

I'm really interested in making music, but it would probably need to take up as much time as making games to get far with it. Maybe a thing to get more into sometime in the future. Thanks for the suggestions nik.

I'd give it a try you might like it.
I use Lunix multimedia studio which has a habbit of crashing and the undo doesn't work but it's a sequencer and it's free.
